My Fitness Journey

The first time I ever picked up a dumbbell and felt the tangibility of a deeper connection to myself and to feeling my best, I knew my passion for movement would never go away. My name is Joseph Dodd, I am a recent college graduate from James Madison University seeking an alternative route into the medical world by helping anyone who wants to learn how to improve their own health, overall well-being and achieve a pain free lifestyle supporting whatever your favorite activities, hobbies, or interests might be. While in undergraduate academia, I achieved a bachelor’s in science as an Integrated Science and Technology major concentrating in both the Biotechnology and Telecommunications fields. Together both my academic experiences and experiences post-graduate have deeply refined my learning and yearning for the best of applied scientific evidence catapulting my knowledge toward the pinnacle of health and wellness, and I truly believe that personal training has so much to offer people in terms of everyday lifestyle benefits. While working as a cloud computing consultant who specialized in the development and operations of complex multifaceted web applications, I consistently refined my exercise movements in the gym after work and would often find substantial carry-over benefits for my career sitting behind the desk 40 (or often sometimes many more) hours a week. The carry-over benefits of moving focused my concentration and kept my head clear on many of my day-to-day tasks. However, I learned through the desk jock lifestyle that even though I wanted a career that allowed me to be more active, I also wanted to pursue a career with which I felt confident in providing real tangible value to people’s lives. Perhaps the greatest testament as to why I became a personal trainer is my own experience with the many advantages of a proper exercise prescription. Ever since the first pursuits of knowledge and research when I started lifting, it has always been a passion of mine to want to teach others how to live better lives and be more physically active, and that passion continues to deepen every day. I want to always pursue the foremost knowledge in providing the most effective treatments for strength and neuromuscular reconnection, making sure I consistently pursue the knowledge to get there in the most efficient way possible while working within the vast demands and stressors of the modern life. My most recent testament to the health and wellness space has been working within a neuromuscular inpatient rehab facility in Richmond, Virginia rated #2 in the State. I believe all my work I accomplished being there left an exhorbitantly positive impact in both the life and well-being of all patients with whom I interacted on a daily basis.
